Another forest from Wirtualna Polska

2022-10-21

Wirtualna Polska continues its cooperation with the Las Na Zawsze [Forest Forever] Foundation. This year, the company chose to take under its protection more than 1.5 hectares of mature forest in Bochotnica, Lubelskie voivodship. This marks another step towards the achievement of the goals included in the sustainable growth strategy.

Protection of existing and valuable forests is one of the most important initiatives that can be undertaken for the good of the natural environment. This is why Wirtualna Polska decided to purchase 1.5 ha of land overgrown with mature deciduous forest that is about 80 years old. In addition to the valuable stand of trees, mainly birches, maples and oaks, the forest is also home to rare species of fungi, including the scarlet elfcup, which was under strict species protection until 2014. Together with the Las na Zawsze Foundation, Wirtualna Polska legally protects their future so that they can grow for ever.

The main goal of the project is to protect biodiversity by ensuring a place to live for dozens of organisms and to keep the carbon dioxide accumulated in the forest biomass, which would return to the atmosphere if the forest were to be cut down.

During the launch of the campaign, 40 Holding employees attended classes and educational lectures devoted to the impact of forests on the environment, on people and their health.

"We bought a beautiful piece of our planet – a portion of a forest near Kazimierz Dolny. Last year’s forest planting campaign encouraged us to take additional action and our impatience did not allow us to wait several decades for effects. That’s where the investment in the protection of forests came from. We encourage everyone to do as many good deeds for our planet as possible" says Jacek Świderski, CEO of Wirtualna Polska Holding S.A.

Wirtualna Polska Holding S.A. continues to carry out responsible activities. One year ago, the company planted 1 hectare of forest in Olędy near Siedlce. It also adopted the Sustainable Development Strategy for 2022-2025. The document describes three key areas of activity - environment, society and corporate governance - in which the company will carry out the defined tasks. The top goals include media independence, green energy, climate education, diversity, and cybersecurity. The strategy also includes long-term assumptions, with the implementation horizon up to 2030. Over the past two years, the company focused on environmental goals and its "green" transformation, which will enter the next level from 2023 - by that time all of Wirtualna Polska's data centers will be zero-emission.
